How many driving lessons to pass test

How many hours do you need to pass your driving test? How long does it take to pass a test? There are two elements to the theory test, both of which you must pass.


The first part is a series of multiple-choice questions which cover the Highway Code, traffic sign knowledge and essential. There is a myth out there that driving instructors want to stretch out the number of lessons as much as possible.

This is just untrue. Every driving instructor has a responsibility to you. Note that these figures are not an opinion, they are.


It is how YOU show the examiner that you are safe behind the wheel, you know about the rules. Booking one or two lessons at a time also allows you the flexibility to change.


But don’t take this to heart. Some drivers may need less, and some drivers may need more.


However everyone learns at different pace therefore some people will be ready before this average number of driving lessons and others will require more time.

Intensive driving lessons, sometimes called crash courses, are for people who want to pass their driving test very quickly – usually within days to weeks. Is an intensive driving course right for you? The average learner needs hours of practice to pass the driving test, in addition to hours of driving lessons.

That’s the equivalent of at least two-hour lessons. I had hours in total and did not have my own car, I passed first time. Some people can pass in a lot less time, some people take longer. You must pass your theory test before you can book your driving test. While there’s no minimum number of lessons required to take your test, it can be useful to have an idea of how many you might need so you can budget for your lessons and plan for the future.


If, for whatever reason, you already know how to drive, it will probably suffice to take five practical lessons in order to pass your driving test the first time.
