Elton reservoir fishing

We welcome anglers from Gloucestershire and beyond to our lovely lakes. Me and my fishing accomplice were down there just after sunrise, legering deadbaits in the hope of a pike or two, but sadly we BLANKED.

My current impression is that Welton is primarily a water storage reservoir, and a fishing site. Maybe more, as it develops. If you want boating them you might consider Standley Lake(Summer only) which is just across the border in Westminster.


Near the Forest of Dean, Newnham on Severn it provides excellent carp fishing for all ages and abilities. The lake has pegs and there is some disabled access.


The small black-headed gull colony by the sailing club had been productive, with at least four well-grown youngsters. A few lesser black-backed gulls, a couple of herring gulls and a common gull were loafing round out on the water and taking turns at sitting on the buoys. The Reservoir holds bass and panfish, and Beaverdam Run holds trout. Mill Lane Fishery offers an ideal setting for individuals who desire to partake in this popular and relaxing, yet often exciting and invigorating, sport.


United Utilities is to close all its reservoir and recreational site car parks from tonight, as official advice to observe social distancing is stepped up. The move follows similar decisions by other landowners who have seen a surge in visitors due to the fine spring weather.


Toilets, car parks and other gated entrances will be shut from tonight. Night fishing is possible, and there is disabled access. Winter roach and rudd to over 1lb, tench to 6lb, perch to 2lb, bream to 1lb, pike to 10lbs plus zander to 8lbs.


Carp have been seen but rarely caught Tactics: in winter pinkies or bread crumbs gets roach and rudd.
