Clutch cable snapped

Thought my cable had snapped and had to drive it from Bristol to Stafford without a clutch. Turned out it was hydraulic and the slave cylinder seal had blown. Big BIG job as its located in the bell housing of the clutch ! So had to drive it from home to a local garage to get it repaired. Got quite good at driving without using the clutch.


When the pedal is depresse the clutch cable pulls on the clutch linkage to disengage the clutch so that the transmission can be safely shifted. What are the problems with a clutch cable? Is a clutch cable undrivable?


The new clutch cable snapped yesterday. Ive only covered a few hundred miles since the replacement. The break was in the same place, at the metal terminal at the pedal box (top mounted) end.

Well my clutch cable snapped about inches from my lever out of nowhere! Just took it in for a second service this past weekend and everything was good to go. Anyone heard of such a thing? This is my first street bike but i have been grew up on dirtbikes and my father has always had motorcycles.


The shop says they will pick it up and fix, but what a major inconvenience as this is. The clutch is made up three main parts - the clutch plate, pressure plate and flywheel. When the clutch is engaged (foot off the pedal), the springs in the clutch press these three parts together so that the engine and the transmission are connected and spinning at the same speed.

As the clutch kit relies on friction to work, it does wear out gradually and so an adjuster is provided in many vehicles. A clutch cable can also snap without warning, rendering the pedal useless. Alternatively, clutch cable adjustment can be performed manually. As it says, my clutch cable snapped while I was riding today. Fortunately, I was almost home and was able to finesse it the rest of the way. Uno keeps snapping the clutch cable at the pedal end!
