To maintain your registration you need to pay your annual fee.

You also need to renew your registration every three years through revalidation. You can apply for registration with the NMC as a nurse or midwife if you have obtained the appropriate qualifications from a UK university. All registered nurses trained in the UK will have completed a pre-registration nursing programme and will have met the NMC’s requirements of good health and good character.

As part of the confirmation process, you will need to sign a form stating that the nurse, midwife or nursing associate you are confirming has met the revalidation requirements. You will need to include your contact details on this form – this will include your name, professional address and NMC or other professional Pin where relevant.

Once the NMC have completed your assessment and have confirmed you have met the minimum requirements to progress onto part test of competence, you will be issued with an NMC decision letter. Once all other steps are complete applicants will complete their final declaration and pay the registration fee, allowing them to be included on the NMC register.

This can only be taken once. In total, the cost for the entire process will come to around £4to £6- much lower than the current system, which generally costs between £7and £373. Of course the largest membership organisation for those it does concern, the trade union Amicus-CPHVA which represents health visitors, thinks it should stay, too – which pretty much guarantees four out of practitioner votes in favour at the NMC.

The presence of a multi- part register resulting in a health visitor block vote has long since given them a disproportionate influence at the NMC. If you have practised for fewer than the required number of hours in the three year period since your registration was last renewed or you joined the register, then you must successfully complete an appropriate return to practice programme approved by the NMC before the date of your application for renewal of registration.

Some individuals will need to be registered under more than one ‘ part ’ of the HCPC Register, or with two different regulatory bodies. There are currently parts to the HCPC Register – one part for each profession we regulate.

What dual registration is. The reason we use the term ‘parts’ is because there is more than one protected. Revalidation is the new process that all nurses and midwives will need to go through in order to renew their registration with the NMC.
