Car over revving when changing gears

Throttle cables can get really stiff over time. It may be that the vehicle senses the road speed and uses the idle control valve to keep revs up to aid gear changes, but the addition of a bit more.

If your engine revs up as you press down on the accelerator but your vehicle doesn’t accelerate as per usual or as you would expect, it’s a troublesome sign that can lead to a full-blown transmission failure. Transmission slipping, or gears slipping, is one of the most common transmission problems on both manual and automatic transmissions.

So really the only thing that can make the engine work harder is the throttle, or gearing down.

How do you change gears? Can I start a car in second gear? Why is my car not changing gear? This damn car is nothing but problems at the moment.

When driving along, the engine revs high when i change gear. I recently changed the ICV and cleaned the TB which cured the stalling when braking, bit now it over revs when i change gear. I had a look on hear, but everyone seemed to.

Had an interesting drive on the weekend up the Bruce Hwy to Rainbow Beach.

On a number of occasions either going up a hill, overtaking or just accelerating the tacho would increase through 000-4rpm and then rev up to 000rpm without changing gear. Very disconcerting.

Ihas only done 45K, and just had 45K service. Going to dealer tomorrow. Every time a gear change is require the car’s computer activates a transmission solenoid, which directs transmission fluid into the valve body to engage the correct gear. When this is faulty or not working properly, this can cause a delay in gear shifting or in some cases cause the car to not shift at all.

My Isuzu Rodeo will over rev before shifting into 3rd. The problem is itermittent and only happens when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Shifting is smooth in all other gears.

The car will not accelerate while the motor is revving between gears. The fluid was recently replaced. I need some good news here!

To change gears, you need to press down the clutch and move the gear stick into the desired gear. Once you’ve changed gear, pull your foot slowly off the clutch while pressing the accelerator. If you’re pulling away, you’ll need to find the biting point so that you don’t stall.

Car over revving when changing gear.

Whilst I change gears when I drive, the revs seem to shoot up for a couple of seconds and then. It revs really high when i press down on the clutch to change gear for like a second.

And thats also another issue. Everytime i get in my car in the morning and set off i hear a sort of click somewhere in my car. I cant describe the soun but it doesnt sound good. And when break at the end of my road i hear a lot of scraping.

Had the car for over years, around about 18months ago my car had a new clutch slave cylinder fitted and since then i noticed the annoying over revving when changing gear. If the engine is revving while the clutch is disengaged (during the shift) it’s not the clutch. It could be a sticky throttle cable holding the throttle open momentarily when you take your foot off the gas. Or it could be a vacuum leak or any number of other things.

Who’s giving you these opinions? When you shift your car into drive, neutral, or reverse, if you’re hearing loud clunking noises, it’s possible the torque converter is the root of the trouble.

The torque converter turns while the transmission is in park and neutral, therefore, any noise from the torque converter will occur while the vehicle is in gear. Vauxhall zafira B 1.
