We pay the sailing club for use of the reservoir and club premises for swimming on Tuesdays.

The Sailing Club building and boat sheds are closed even to sailing club members at the moment so there would be no possibility of using the toilets or changing facilities. We are an RYA recognised training establishment and offer free training to RYA Lto new members. Other training opportunities include Powerboat Land First Aid training. There is an active and varied social program.

When the canal was in use 000gallons of water per day were abstracted from the river to fill the canal. Black-eared Wheatear, Lesser Grey Shrike and Kentish Plover remain amongst some of the best birds ever recorded here to date.

The club is accessed off the A5 Bolton Roa Bury, via Kitchener Street, which is opposite Haig Road and the Wellington Public House, at the end of Kitchener Street, turn right then first left over the narrow bridge and down the narrow lane on the right for 200metres. Bolton Tri Club run open regular open water swim sessions, including courses for beginners, at this NOWCA-accredited lake.

The reservoir covers 22000. Go to uswim open water memberships and take out a bronze membership and take your registration e-mail and BTC membership card with you to get the reduced £session fee. At the sailing club take the left road. You can see, on the left hand side of the picture, a little blue arrow showing the way.

At end of Kitchener St turn right into Buller Street. Once over bridge bear right and down lane to Sailing Club. Stand-Up Paddle boarding is the latest addition to our available activities.

We have a set of SUP’s which can be hired on an hourly basis to go out onto the Reservoir. For beginners we offer a one-hour introductory session, which you must be years or older to take part in, and after that you’re good to go! ELTON Reservoir has been drained as part of an £800strengthening project.

To join the club all we will require is a signed membership form (and your payment!) Further details and membership forms may be obtained from the membership secretary. The series ran across much of the north of England and part of Scotland. A cool South Westerly allowed the fleet to sail a course, which used the whole length of the reservoir with a start virtually in front of the club house.

To save everyone time we ask people to register on-line beforehand - there will be no paper registration forms. It is £a swim or £for Bolton Tri Club members. But you can get free swims if you provide kayak safety cover for an hour.
