Hurley lock campsite

The site was a great base to visit lots of great places, including London which we did twice. Staff on reception were really helpful and there was plenty of space for the kids to run around and play.


There is also a village shop and pub within walking. A handful of locks offer basic camping facilities for the summer season, with access generally by boat or foot only. Added to your Itinerary Planner below.

This is the camping area, located in the North East of the park and is only suitable for tents. All pitches are grass and have a 10amp electric hook-up.


There are pitches available for both standard (metre wide) and large (metre wide) tents. The 1caravan static holiday homes are set in a level, mature parkland setting surrounded by farmland.


So I did that, paid pounds and got the code for a padlock for the gate on the weir.

There’s a fine ivy-covered lock -keeper’s house, a few small buildings housing whatever accoutrements are necessary for the execution of the lock -keeper’s art, and the campsite – a small riverside field dotted with apple trees harbouring fruits of various crunchiness and flavour, and a loo in an unobtrusive building at the far end. It really is a great campsite.

Our kids loved paddling and wading in the water which everyone else seemed to be doing to. Staff - always very helpful and pleasant. Overall - ours and our kids favourite campsite so far. Apparently the site was full (we booked in advance) but still felt very relaxed and uncrowded.


On site facilities all upto scratch and easily accessible. The island at Pinkhill Lock is just large enough to accommodate the lock-keeper’s house and a small copse, one part of which, delineated by a couple of small signs with a simple tent on them, is the campsite. Later records show that the land on which the lock is situated was sold to Christchurch College, Oxford.


If you want to commune with old father Thames, nothing beats camping on the riverbank.

Several places to swim. Place Categories: River Swims and Wild Swim. The old lock was modified with channels to enable light craft, skiffs and punts to be transferred up and downstream.


Arguably the most famous river in Englan the River Thames has played a vital part in the development of London as a capit. Dogs are welcome on site if kept on a lead. They can be very strict on rules.


Our children were told off for cycling above the speed limit. The warden often cycles or drives round to make sure no open fires or music. Parking is free by the church.


Just follow the footpath until you come to the bridge. If using public transport, Courtney Buses provide the 2bus service, a 30-minute ride from Maidenhea leaving approximately every hours. A pet friendly campsite, open all year and situated directly on the West Highland Way, within reach of Glasgow. We are open and following government guidlines for COVID-19.


Around Temple Lock the path switches sides frequently and we went over three bridges.
