Straight 6 vs v6

Is an inline cheaper than a V6? Firstly, like any in-line engine, straight sixes are a nice, simple design.


With no cylinder offset, manufacturing costs are low and there is no need for separate heads or valvetrains like in a. Yep, an inline six is actually more refined than a Vwith the same displacement. In fact, improvements in refinement were one of the main reasons why Jaguar Land Rover decided to switch back to inline sixes (an engine configuration the company had abandoned decades ago in favour of V6s ).

Jaguar and Mercedes are saving the straight-six this year, so now is a perfect time to go over the all of the differences. Vengines have a plus point for their compact size. Furthermore, a Vis generally less intrusive on vehicle architecture, translating to more legroom, a bonus for consumers.
