Timing belt change interval

When to replace timing belt service intervals? How often should the timing belt be changed? How long does a timing belt change last? Are timing belts required?

Also, make sure you understand if your engine is an interference engine or a non-interference engine.

There is, unfortunately, no general set time at which point you need to replace your timing belt. The replacement interval will differ across car models, and their engines. Underneath you can find a table listing a number of timing belt replacement intervals on popular cars, as suggested by manufacturers. Manufacturers always recommend replacing the belt at a certain mileage or age interval, whichever comes first.

Ford are longer at years. My VAG TSi is years or 120miles. Whatever the interval most cars will only need two belt changes in their lifetime and at approx £3for a change its not a huge cost.

I personally think the Renault timing service intervals are optimistically to high.

I also run a Vauxhall with a Vengine when new they where sold with a service interval of 8000. Vauxhall lowered the belt service interval to 40right across the model range. Additionally every ten years or 120.

Depends how it has been serviced so far. If the oil has only been changed every 20miles or so then there could be excess wear and the the chain and tensioner may become noisy sooner rather than later. A timing chain runs inside the engine, as it needs to be lubricated by the engine oil.

Most timing belt changes are at approx years or a mileage interval. A timing belt typically needs to be replaced between 40and 100miles depending on the vehicle. VW Jetta change interval is 70miles for 2. L Valve models is 70miles. L 8V (US) Achassis (aka Mark IV).

The timing belt and auxiliary drive belt, both of which have a recommended service time of 100miles or months, have a repair time of almost two and three-quarter hours. VW Golf change interval is 70miles for 2. On this occasion, the engine was identified as an ‘interference’ type engine. Failure to replace a timing belt in due time can lead to costly engine damage. The recommended replacement intervalls for Peugeot timing belts are as follows.

Well the Astra is due for a service and I asked re timing belt and apparently the model I have is 100miles or years!

The 1bhp model 80miles cambelt change interval (Astra H). Could someone tell me what the actual cam belt kit replacement interval is on astra H 1. I can just about hear the belt on tick over, not a loud noise but audible with bonnet up, not sure if this is normal. Car is plate with 44. Replace at 105K miles.

I said the service schedule stated that the belt is a long life item and should only be checked at 1k. Most manufacturers suggest either a time- or mileage-based change, depending on which comes first. There’s a lot of variation between both manufacturers and engines when it comes to when a change is due.

This could range from 40miles up to 100miles, and from four years up to six years. First of all, this is my first time doing a TBelt. Note: Although the normal interval for timing belt renewal is 150miles or years, it is strongly recommended that the interval suggested above is observe especially on cars which are subjected to intensive use, ie, mainly short journeys or a lot of stop-start driving.

I tenddoing an extendeddriving holiday to Scotland and would hate to break down whilst there. Any information please. Timing belt intervals.
