Mg zt forum problems

If you have noticed that there is a knocking noise coming from the front suspension, as you drive over speed bumps or poorly surfaced roads, then you will need to replace the lower ball joints. This is one of the main causes of the head gaskt failure-nothing to do with coolant capacity.

The MG versions featured very sporting suspension, uprated brakes, individual engine specs, sporting gearing together with bespoke exterior and interior treatments to generate a true MG and individual character. Once this problem was addressed - I recall it was only early ZTs with the 190bhp engine that were affected - the car went on to perform without problem.

We had a problem like this when I was at MG with Vthrowing rods, (normally No.2), iirc I noticed that the exit of the big end oil feed had a smaller operating radius than the crank main bearing radius, so my thinking was that the oil could be centrifuged back towards the mains from the big ends thus starving the big ends, I moved onto another project so I never knew If I was right or not. Any other suggestions? Can be woefully unreliable, lots of problems with the cooling system and fan.


Air-con system is weak and fails fairly regularly. Lots of electrical problems especially with the air bag system. Read up on them and know them like the back of your hand!


ECU gets drowned due to plenum chamber blocked (clear it!).
