Clutch pedal sticking vw golf

This is well known and there are possible causes (and only one easy fix!). Your pedal stayed down because the pressure plate could not engage. I was driving my VW Golf 1. TDI in traffic and suddenly the clutch just seemed to sort of snap.


The pedal got stuck to the floor and I had to pull over with drive engaged and stuck in second gear. I tried to pull the pedal back up and it does flick up to the normal position, but as soon as I press the clutch again it springs back down to the floor. With no incident i can think of out of nowhere my clutch pedal was lower then normal and was loose meaning I could raise It with my foot and then it would drop back down. So I checked the pedals peak force, 33lbs compared to a GTI which had lbs and Athat had lbs.


So yeah the clutch pedal is either fully pressed down or all the way up. Does anyone know the cause of my clutch pedal suddenly staying down in an almost engaged position?


It first occurred after doing a mile stretch of motorway. I then tried to dip the clutch pedal but it was resting in a position unusually low down to the floor.


Hazard lights on I tried all I could think of to get the clutch to re-engage: pumping the pedal, stopping and starting the engine. Eventually I discovered that I could just lift the pedal with the tip of my shoe and the clutch would engage again.


I continued like this with the clutch becoming more and more problematic. VW say its my clutch master cylinder thats faulty.


As thats being replaced, I thought I may aswell change the slave cylinder too,too eliminate all the.
